Meanwhile, in Romania, somewhere in the early 1990s, Mr. Mihai opened his patisserie kiosk at Piața Amzei and started making probably the best merdenele in town. For ages, that small jewel of street gastronomy was decorated with handmade font by an unknown author, and I enjoyed his naivety and bravery every time I passed by. Then, for no particular reason, one summer night in 2022, I decided to create a full set of letters and numbers and make a font out of it, which I called Brutal Naive. Unfortunately, recently, Mihai updated his kiosk with some more “traditional” lettering and original font is sort of “documenta” now.
